Ratstar’s ‘Love You Again’ Is High-Energy Indie with a Groovy, Pop-Punk Approach

7 23 18 RatstarRatstar’s ‘Love You Again’ is high-energy indie rock with a groovy, pop-punk imbued approach. This Brooklyn-based band says they’re, “known for their catchy songs and rambunctious live performances.” Over their general post-punk revival or garage rock tendencies, these guys like to paint their song structures with glitzy, pinging lead guitars reminiscent of groups like Rufio or New Found Glory. On top of that, the vocal approach seems to be deeply in debt to Julian Casablanca of The Strokes. Many try to pull off his distinct brand of understated old-school cool, but this group actually succeeds at it. This might not be the most original thing out there, but it is a somewhat refreshing take on indie rock that successfully fuses two of punk’s most popular subgenres. These guys have a lot to offer.
