“Surrender” by Leiah, is this emo-indie bands come back song of 2018 and their first release in 16 years. Overdriven guitar tones, similar to bands like The Strokes and The Hives, carry through this gritty single. In the first 20 seconds of the intro one electric guitar vamps on a single chord creating a loop, followed by a screeching lead guitar riff that rips through the air. The vocals are raw and emotion driven sticking to the emo genre. “Give in now, or surrender,” he sings, and it would be in your best interest to surrender to that inner sad boy and to rock out to this new single.
Leiah is doing an excellent job of keeping the early emo sound alive. Enjoy “Surrender” with other early emo sounds such as The Get Up Kids, The Promise Ring, and Texas is the Reason.
