“Rupi Kaur” is the story-telling folk song by singer-songwriter Joel Baker. Writing all his songs from his personal life experiences, Joel Baker brings a unique authenticity to all of his songs. His emotional lyrics tell the story of being let down by a girl that he used to have a romance with. His voice sounds raw and emotional and has a certain type of roughness to it that works perfectly for his style of songwriting. The song is stripped down but the little instrumentation it does have leaves the perfect amount of room to really feel the true emotions of his sorrowful lyrics. The music video follows Joel Baker singing and playing his song around the U.K.. While the video is quite simple in style, it feels classic and fitting for “Rupi Kaur.” The song is off of his EP titled “Winter Dreams” which can be streamed on Spotify.
