DIY indie-folk artist Derek Ted recently released an aesthetically tantalizing lo-fi music video for his song “L U C K Y” off of his new EP “Better Spirit”. You might remember Derek from an RTP article published earlier this year covering his video for “Sew Me Up” off of the same EP. “Better Spirit” has since been seeing a swift increase in popularity on multiple streaming platforms and he deserves every bit of recognition for this album. Derek has been busy debuting his new work at Los Angeles house shows and getting ready for his upcoming East Coast Tour with dates starting at the end of September.
Derek Ted is one of the greatest artists I’ve had the pleasure of discovering this year. He has this magical gift for bringing the listener into his world. You almost feel like an old friend as his soulful voice reminisces about the ups and downs of youth. He creates this sense of intimacy by using homemade footage in his videos. This gives the videos the same DIY, personal feel that radiates from his music. This song is an ode to love and a reminder that we shine even through our darkest times. We are all diamonds in the rough and Derek never wants you to forget that.
