Spitfire by Jordan Taylor Dubin [Poetry]

Spitfire

Written by Jordan Taylor Dubin

What are little girls made of?
What are little girls made of?
Sugar and spice
And all that’s nice
That’s what little girls are made of
Little disciplined robots
Being forced into a role
Before they have a chance
For the world to see more
Of what they’re made of
This little girl
This little girl’s got discipline
But also a firecracker soul
She spits fire, that little spitfire
She’s got a mouth of a sailor
The words of a true storyteller
Spilling out of the pores
Of her finger tips
Yes, she may be made of what’s nice
But recipes can change
Rules are meant to be broken
What are little girls made of?
What are little girls made of?
Years of depression and anxiety
Building her up into a fighter
She’s pretty
Pretty tough
The box
She’s forced into
Ripped open at seams
One of the main goals
She used to set for herself
Don’t let anyone know you’re hurting
Sit still
Smile
Look pretty
Look okay
Just
Look
Nice
Enough!
