Hailed as ‘music that lights you up from the inside out’, Ross Harmon’s music will make you smile, dance or both. A born performer, Ross’s captivating high-energy, party-like show is the culmination of an entire lifetime of practice. This is reflected in his anthemic music: a powerful vocal and an infectious beat.

Being influenced by a rich melting pot of genres and artists including Dance Pop icon Lady Gaga, Vocal House legends Livin’ Joy and Barbara Tucker and Trad Folk-Pop group The Corrs means Ross’s melodies are catchy, his lyrics feature whimsical graphic imagery and the production uses a mixture of cutting-edge electronic sounds and traditional acoustic instruments. His specialty gospel-style harmonies are a distinct feature in his music – these are the result of growing up singing harmonies in choirs and being exposed to harmony-driven music such as The Four Seasons and ABBA.

Born and raised in Northamptonshire, Ross started writing songs at the age of 13 and self-produced his first EP (‘Enter’) at age 15. Since then, he has honed his skills as a songwriter and performer. He is a professional Musical Theatre actor and has featured in musicals such as Mamma Mia. His vocal skills and performing experience give him a special edge in the studio and on stage, allowing him to let loose and form a special, unique connection with the audience.

The song starts off strong with a fast-paced 90s piano-house instrumental that immediately packs a punch. We are then blessed by Ross’s stunning vocal delivery that soars across the entire song. I absolutely adore the beautiful vocal stacking in the verses and the catchy chorus. The lyrical direction of the song takes us even further, with lyrics that are fun to sing along to.

I had the privilege of asking Ross some questions about his single “Lonely World,” check it out below!

Describe your release in three words.

Lonely World is a celebration of love, acceptance and queer culture. The Disco influence pushes forward a retro feel but the production is firmly rooted in a modern sound – showing love for what came before and a ready excitement for what’s to come.

What was your favorite part about making this song?

My favourite part about making the song was recording the gospel backing vocals. There are a tonne of harmonies that come together to make such a cool texture.

What was the hardest part about making this song?

The hardest part for me was waiting to share it with the world. Sitting on music ready to release is so frustrating as you hope people will love it but have to wait a few months to find out!

Was this release cathartic for you?

Absolutely. The cathartic part for me was finally releasing some music out to the world after so long. Controlling all the elements from production to commissioning the artwork, and then letting it go into the universe for people to make their own minds up.

What keeps you motivated?

For me, the creative drive to make something new keeps me motivated. All of my music has a distinct sound – however all of the songs are different and unique in their own way. Lonely World feels like the right debut for me – and I can’t wait to see how people respond to it.

What can we expect next from you?

I have a body of work ready to release this year and I’m super stoked to unleash it! Expect more retro influences, more complex and intricate gospel harmonies and more strong dance worthy beats!

What other artists are you listening to right now?

I always listen to Lady Gaga – she is and always has been my biggest influence. But at the moment I’m loving SG Lewis’s new album. All great tunes with a few cool collaborations thrown in.

Thanks for taking the time to answer those questions for us, Ross!
