On April 5th, 2025, Los Angeles will once again be the site of powerful protests as part of the Hands Off! movement, a nationwide response to the growing authoritarianism in the United States. These protests are not just about opposing a few bad policies—they are about standing against a government that is systematically stripping away civil rights, dehumanizing marginalized communities, and consolidating power in the hands of a wealthy elite. It’s time for us to take to the streets and resist.
The Fascist State We Live In
The government has made its agenda clear. Under the current regime, we’ve seen the erosion of basic rights—especially those of immigrants, Black and Brown communities, and trans individuals. The latest attacks on social programs, civil liberties, and the welfare of everyday people are not isolated incidents. They are part of a larger, coordinated effort to control the population through fear, division, and force.
This is not just a series of misguided policies; this is fascism. When we live in a society where the rich continue to grow wealthier while the rest of us are pushed further into poverty, where dissent is met with violence, and where entire communities are criminalized and oppressed, we are facing a government that is actively working to maintain its power by any means necessary.
What We’re Fighting For
The Hands Off! protests are more than just a response to current events—they are a clear message: we will not sit idly by while the government continues to dismantle our rights. This movement is about defending the most vulnerable members of our society: immigrants, people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, and working-class families who are being left behind.
This fight is against a government that has shown, time and time again, that it prioritizes the interests of corporations and billionaires over the needs of the people. From the criminalization of refugees to the violent targeting of trans communities, it’s clear that the government has turned its back on the most marginalized groups in our society.
Los Angeles: A City of Resistance
In Los Angeles, the Hands Off! protests will take place across multiple locations, each one a critical point for people to gather and make their voices heard. At Pershing Square, we will assemble at 4:00 PM to demand accountability from a government that continues to fail us. Los Feliz Library will host a rally at 11:00 AM to discuss how we can continue organizing for social change. At North Hollywood Metro Station, a group will meet at 12:00 PM to march together in solidarity.
These protests are just the beginning. They are a call to action, a chance to stand in solidarity with the most vulnerable, and a step toward dismantling the fascist systems that oppress us all.
