The UK’s PROFESSIONAL 101 are not here to compromise and “Life Of Moderation” makes that absolutely clear from the first power chord. The guitars fill every inch of space the way punk rock guitars are supposed to, raw and urgent and alive, driven by snappy snare drums that hit with exactly the right amount of attack and gritty vocals that stop you dead in your tracks and dare you to look away. There is an analog warmth running through the whole thing that carries the spirit of 70s and 80s punk rock without sounding like a museum piece, this is old school energy shot through with something immediate and necessary and completely of the moment. The band says it best themselves: “The world is in chaos. Create art inspired by the madness.” And that is exactly what they have done. Thematically “Life Of Moderation” is a full-throated celebration of giving into the pleasures of life however hedonistic they may be, a fist raised at anyone who ever told you to play it safe, anchored by the gloriously unapologetic declaration “I have no regrets.” The chorus hook is the kind that crawls into your brain and stays there, the kind you will find yourself screaming at the top of your lungs feeling cooler than you have any right to feel. In a world gone completely mad, PROFESSIONAL 101 have made the only logical response. Turn it up and give in.
