Fevrier’s ‘Short Is Tall’ is upbeat yet melancholic Norwegian indie pop. These Tromso natives have taken a decidedly poppy approach to their music without sacrificing their “roots in shoegaze and new wave.” The bright, bubbly synths that define most of the song have a strange ambiguity to them that allows the song to express the surface-level trappings of happiness while utilizing more complex undercurrents. It’s also great how the band as a whole is okay with letting the electronic elements take priority when they need to. It really gives the tune a dynamism and diversity that permeates the entire mix.
