<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-3830" src="https://rockthepigeon.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/6-26-18-sanderlings.jpg?w=888" alt="6 26 18 Sanderlings.jpg" width="444" height="444" />&#8216;Dear Friend&#8217; by Sanderlings is deeply melodic straightforward indie rock with a heartland punk soul. The project is described as, &#8220;the musical ramblings of longtime DIY musician Woody Locke.&#8221; This &#8220;four-piece ocean-themed indie-punk band out of Santa Barbara, CA,&#8221; began &#8220;humbly as a solo project with Woody releasing a home-recorded EP in May 2016 and a 7″ vinyl in November of that year.&#8221; These guys know how to build up a twangy grit without sacrificing on the melodic end. The consistent power chords peppered with unpredictably fleeting guitar licks is backed up by a strong rhythm section. Above everything, Locke&#8217;s vocal approach gives the band a distinct homeliness reminiscent of groups like Uncle Tupelo, Cassino and Tigers Jaw. These guys are doing a great job.
