Lava Frog’s ‘In the Air’ is intensely atmospheric English hard rock. They describe themselves as, “a four-piece rock band from Newcastle. Our influences are diverse and plentiful,” they say, “so we won’t bore you with a list.” After a spacey, kind of free-form intro defined by angular, staccato percussion, the band flies into the soaring, vocally-oriented body of this piece. Under unrestrained post-rock style howling, the guitars chug away with an impressive sense of passion. These guys really have a good sense of how to create and control energy within a track.
