It was “early 2016 as news channels showcased relations of all kinds strained across the globe.” Then, “South Bronx artist Clacc brought together four musicians from different walks of life and musical backgrounds to create Panda City. Proving once again that music builds bridges, this unit reflects a multi-racial-ethnic-musical blend that can’t be categorized in any one genre.” They say, “the name is meant to reflect the make-up of the players, a black guy from the South Bronx, two Jewish Yankees and a NOLA redneck.” These guys definitely bring a more refined, conscious approach to the rap rock sound. It feels like some lines can definitely be drawn between these guys and a group like Deftones or the later work of POD. But at the same time, these guys are clearly coming from a more urban, traditionalist rap perspective than most nu metal or rap rock acts have. Rather than using elements of rap to supplement a rock approach, they’re using elements of rock to supplement a rap approach. Check out ‘Under the Influence’ below!
