Tristan Turdean’s New EP Takes Listeners Through the 5 Stages of Grief, Visually and Sonically

Tristan Turdean is out with an incredible project involving both music and video. “5 SONGS TO GET OVER YOU” is more than just an EP, it’s an experience that is both sonic and visual. Directed by Mihai Sighinaș and shot and edited by Robert Comșa, Tristan Turdean has a high quality video, playing the songs in order, that showcases the professionalism and intent behind his work. The EP takes us through the five stages of grief: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and Acceptance.

Denial: The EP starts off with “Remind Me When You Return.” The song has lots of musical variety, from the verses that are almost whispered over a jazzy guitar loop, to the pop punk chorus that is delivered with grit and anger. The song seems to be about reclaiming his space and the video features Tristan in the zone, making music in his apartment, writing, and going through the stages of grief. He’s in heavy denial, with the lyrics reflecting that. He thinks she will come back even though they have broken up. The song contains several mouth-watering guitar solos. Overall, this is a highly dynamic rock song with a contagious chorus section.

Anger: The second song has lots of energy, fast-paced lyrics and pop punk drums. The song is all about the heartbreak over his “E-Girl.” In the video, the two text back and forth, arguing between their two separate spaces. Lyrically, he talks about being depressed and having trust issues. He’s angry with how she left him. However, this girl won’t leave his mind, even though the relationship seemed to be highly toxic. At the end of the video, Turdean flips over his desk out of frustration and all of his papers and lyrics go flying.

Bargaining: “Tell Me That You Love Me Too” has a highly contagious verse and chorus section. The vocal melodies are stand out, making this a favorite on the record. The song has synths and guitar riffs. It also has a rap style verse that has a good, quick flow. Lyrically, he is wondering if she ever truly loved him at all. He’s thinking, can they get back together? He reflects on all the things he loves about her. He replays the relationship in his head, throughout his song lyrics.

Depression: The EP mellows out momentarily for the introduction of “Miss U.” In the video, Turdean fixes his desk and starts straightening up his room. He’s deep in the grief of the heartbreak, realizing he misses his ex-girlfriend more than any other emotion. There is an empty space now and it has him feeling blue. But does missing someone, mean you should be back together? In the verse, he reflects again on the toxic behaviors, realizing why he shouldn’t get back together with her. The ending of this song has a really cool video moment that you won’t want to miss!

Acceptance: The last track also has a mellow intro and a cool drum groove. “Leave You In The Past” is a song about moving on. It’s about accepting that this was the end of the relationship, and it’s time to move on. He actually has moved on. Tristan Turdean is back on the stage where he belongs, feeling well enough to go back to his passion of playing music live. On this song, he has found a new love, and reflects on his current happiness.
