The Essence of The Universe have bottled the feeling of falling completely and helplessly in love and “Ave Maria” is the result. Despite sharing its name with the classic piece, this is a fully original song and it carves out its own identity immediately. Phase shifted guitars set a dreamy, euphoric tone right from the start while joyful lyrics like “last night I was so high I let her inside” paint a picture of that carefree, can’t think straight, don’t even want to think straight feeling that only new love can bring. There is a moment where a little fear creeps in, that vulnerability that comes with opening yourself up to someone, but it dissolves almost instantly under the warmth of how the love interest makes him feel. The melodies are catchy and the chorus is the kind you want to sing out loud at the top of your lungs, and the vocals practically beg you to do exactly that. This is a song about losing your mind over someone and being totally okay with it. “Ave Maria” is pure joy from start to finish.
