Circus World’s ‘High’ is some melodic, melancholic alt-rock from the Isle of Man. According to the band, this “continues in the same vein” as their last release, 2017’s The Burning Well EP. The punky, almost sarcastically upbeat riff that opens ‘High’ helps define the rest of the song’s tone. In general, the active, plinky guitars are really what make the song. In this regard, it sounds like these guys are taking some cues from post-hardcore. The rhythm section is strong on here, but stays in the pocket for the most part. The vocals, which are whiny and monotone, really add another layer of expression to the track. They contrast well with the lead guitar. These guys have a lot to offer. Check out ‘High’ below!
