Closer to Zero’s ‘Cigarette Burns’ is angsty, emotive pop punk. On here, the group “paints the picture of someone coming to terms with an authoritative figure… [and] describes the uphill battle against an abusive relationship.” These guys really hit traditional emo pop on the nose. Some obvious comparisons would include early Fall Out Boy, early You Me At Six and Man Overboard. The highlight of this track is undoubtedly the vocals. They’re strong, deep and clear. They feel more like a more accurate portrayal of the genre than the the glitzy, high-pitched vocals that have become more common. These guys are up-and-comers. Check out ‘Cigarette Burns’ below!
