‘Dark Haus’ by Solemn Meant Walks Is Gothic, Punky Shoegaze

6 20 18 Solemn Meant Walks‘Dark Haus’ by Solemn Meant Walks is fast, reverb-drenched, punky shoegaze with a gothic flair. This Chicago-based duo was “founded in 2011 by Chicago native Ami Gloria. They fuse avant-garde, shoegaze, goth, and post-punk to create their unique sound.” Gloria, who plays everything except the drums on here, is clearly a seasoned multi-instrumentalist. Behind her, the almost robotically consistent drums give the tune an almost drone-like quality. This is not that far off from what’s been done by other goth rock groups like Bauhaus or Soviet Soviet, but these guys have the impressive ability to create truly immersive, haunting soundscapes.
