Over My Head’s ‘Hypothetically’ Is Sad Pop Punk with a High Production Value

8 6 18 Over My Head.jpegOver My Head’s ‘Hypothetically’ is glitzy pop punk with a high production value taking a whiny, saturated approach. On this track, unwaveringly poppy interludes with radio-ready hooks coexist with sad, intense distorted guitar dirges. It seems like the sometimes solid, sometimes floating, untethered bass line is the base of this track. In conjunction with some solid, unpretentious drums, it provides a quality base for the often simple, sometimes floating guitar work. The vocals on here don’t break genre norms or anything like that, but they do a good a job of communicating their point. The production might be the best part of this track. The slick-yet-grungy guitar tone the band opens really sets a good precedent for the rest of the track and the electronic flourishes are really well done. This is definitely worth a listen.
