‘State Lines’ by Parlors is rolling, dry indie rock out of New York City. This debut single demonstrates “the band’s penchant for layering a catchy riff on top of a bass-driven groove,” they say. The group’s “repertoire spans from hazy, desert-inspired tunes that might be heard at a dive bar in Tucson,” the band claims, “to 4-on-the-floor stompers.” This definitely has a kind of vaguely psychedelic, desert rock but it manifests itself in a straightforward, more pop-oriented way. The rhythm sections holds the groove down nicely – especially those laid-back walking bass lines. At the same time, some expressive guitar work and a character-rich vocal approach helps solidify the band’s overall tone. This is a well-crafted track from an up-and-coming artist.
