Sophie Nicole Ellison &#8220;plays, records and layers all instrumentation herself as home-recorded collages before polishing the recordings into fully-produced versions in her home studio,&#8221; she says. Ellison describes this tune as emblematic of her &#8220;conflicting headspaces. Layers of intertwining guitars and silky vocals give way to cascading drums and bass, intensifying often self reflective and emotionally fraught lyrics.&#8221; This has an impressively polished tone for a home recording &#8211; clearly this songwriter is also a very talented producer. There&#8217;s something really charming about this song. It doesn&#8217;t really break a ton of new ground in the world of rock-oriented pop, but it feels like a full, completely genuine of Ellison&#8217;s character nonetheless.
