Hailing all the way from Scandinavia is The Major Seconds who are out with their emotional debut single “Angelo.” The song is named after the military base in Northern Ireland, Saint Angelo, that operated from 1970 to 1989. Lyrically the song is a combination of both history and personal experience. John Mitchell of The Major Seconds says The song is my own personal account of [being] a young soldier caught up in a very confusing and dangerous place. I was 18 when I began combat duty and woke up every day thinking that I was going to die for a political cause that I didn’t fully understand and still don’t.

Drawing inspiration from the 1980’s sounds of bands such as The Smiths and The Cure, The Major Seconds are bringing back that retro feel to music that is quickly becoming trendy in the indie music world today. The song feels nostalgic while also feeling dreamy and powerful lyrically. The chorus section of “Angelo” is irresistible in both its melody and delivery.

The music video for “Angelo” follows a young solider who is torn between being stuck in the service and wanting to pursue life as the artist he knows he is supposed to be. The music video is an extremely powerful artistic portrayal that many are going through all over the globe. Enjoy the music video on YouTube:

Note about the magical production of the song:

“We recorded at Valley Sound in Borlänge, Sweden a fabulous recording studio. Four musicians in a room seeing eye to eye as we recorded live trying to capture the feel of how bands sounded back in the 80’s and before recording was done on the grid (cubase etc) I sang straight through the song without any auto tune or overdubs in keeping with the spirit of that.”
