‘Or, the Whale’ by Sean Nolan and the Heartmakers Is Energetic Synth-Driven Pop Punk

11 18 18 Sean Nolan and the Heartmakers.jpg‘Or, the Whale’ by Sean Nolan and the Heartmakers is high-energy pop punk with a quirky, bouncy approach. “Heavily influenced by classic rock and roll and nineties punk rock,” these guys say they “strive for a dynamic, genre-bending sound.” Since their formation, they say “they’ve played countless shows throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan, released two records and have just wrapped up their forthcoming record, The Machineries of Joy, set to be released early 2019.”  These guys have a really fun approach to punk rock, but at the same time there’s a deep honesty here that really tugs at your heartstrings. The combination of grungy guitars and other traditional rock instrumentation with clean, glitzy vocals and poppy synth leads is deeply reminiscent of the Kansas emo sound practiced by groups like The Get Up Kids, Motion City Soundtrack and The Anniversary. Overall, the energy, authenticity and presence are all there. This is a great track from a promising project. Check out ‘Or, the Whale’ below!
