Kunsan Air Base by Hunter T. [Poem]

Kunsan Air Base by Hunter T.

Sometimes, just sometimes, I miss the feeling of holding onto a rifle.
How natural it felt in my arms.
How my hands instinctively find their place.
How it feels to pull my rifle tightly into the pocket of my shoulder.
Resting my cheek against the stock and confidently aiming at a target.
I miss lying on the hard cold ground, against sandbags with my magazines next to me.
I miss the deafening silence before I take the first shot.
Like the lifeless targets are anticipating the bullets impact.
I miss the tranquility of slowly pulling the trigger, then the sudden echoing of the shot.
I miss the distinct and undeniable smell of ammo all over me.
