“The song is silence” By Toni Maddocks [poetry]

Who could have predicted all of the moments
that you would become? I know the reasons, but
such are the thoughts that wander through.

From the moment you were born they held you,
never learning to reach for the sky and in
turn the sun never learned to reach down for
you.

I thought we agreed everything
before this was just practice

so what are you so scared of?
Does it feel like an impulse?

We're lost, I wonder if you want
to be found.

I'll get you to the end, hold you
'til you're right enough to try
again
