A Song for When You Miss Being a Kid: “Little” by Kevin Kolk

Kevin Kolk Yearns for His Younger Days with “Little”

“Little” is a nostalgic 90s-inspired alternative rock song, threaded together with vulnerable, introspective lyrics around being little again. Hitting you in the chest like the first time you open an old family photo album in years, you’ll be holding your younger self tight as “Little” rings gorgeously along with your most precious memories.

A high-energy sound to match his youthful spirit, Kevin’s guitar work features the wall of sound that reminds us of both the expressive and untethered energy of our youth while engaging in playfully bittersweet musicianship with the hindsight of

At just 23 years old, Kevin himself is still young, but not too young to look back with eyes that have witnessed the oceans of change between our childhood and our young adulthood. In way, this song was written by the same kid who grew up on his dad’s music, and the young man many would lovingly refer to as a kid with only $20 in his bank account. Kevin’s many selves and reflections are as earnest as they are endearing, and each sat down to write “Little,” guided by present Kevin’s musical identity meaningfully crafted in the years since its album artwork photo was originally taken.

Between soft and soaring, Kevin’s vocals eviscerate as they beg to be lied to, to be told he’s “got time to figure it out.” There’s a moment where the first chorus “Little” comes to a slow and still place, as if lost in the memory of what it would be like to go back to a time when life was easier. It’s one of those moments where you remember how much music isn’t just the sound itself, but the spaces in between, where we’re going somewhere out of this plane, and in this case, pulled back to an all-too-distant memory of being littler than you are now.

“I made this song about wanting to be little again. Now that I’m 23, I miss being 6. Fall season is nostalgic rock season, and this song embodies the vibe.” – Kevin Kolk

Planted in a gentle, warm, and timelessly modern sound, Kevin Kolk’s “Little” taps at the roots of our earliest memories and most precious moments of being. If you could use a melody to soothe the ache of nostalgia and the innocence of youth, give “Little” a chance. Your younger self is listening.
