Teddy Thompson Strips Robyn’s “Call Your Girlfriend” Down To Pure Heartbreak

London born singer songwriter Teddy Thompson, the son of folk musicians Richard and Linda Thompson, takes Robyn’s legendary “Call Your Girlfriend” and delivers a cover that literally brings you to tears. Softly picked acoustic guitar pairs with his emotive vocal, which flips briefly to falsetto on the line about letting her down easy, while the hum of a string section brings extreme depth to the song. This version is stripped back and not meant for dancing, because it showcases the profound emotions behind the lyrics.

I have never heard this song done quite like this before, and the impact is huge because of the delivery style and instrument choices. It feels like a lullaby that soothes you and breaks your heart at the exact same time, and the human emotion in the track is what shines brightest.

Thompson has been releasing music since 2000, is based in Brooklyn, NY, and is currently on tour in the United States, including a few shows in Minneapolis supporting Rufus Wainwright. If you are anything like me, you put this on a loop and let it bring all the emotions out in you. Prepare to be mesmerized:
