Jr. Sun’s ‘El Rawn Blubbard and the Hollywood Death’ is some quirky, distinctly Angelino alternative rock. According to the band, “the song is written for and lovingly dedicated to Shelly Miscavige, the wife of Scientology leader David Miscavige, who many believe has disappeared under mysterious circumstances.” With themes ranging “from cult murder conspiracies [and] hazy memories of childhood hauntings” to “presidential castration,” this band always has something entertaining in store. An especially well-played, dynamic walking bass line helps define this tune from the start. On top of that, some interesting, garage rock-style guitars move the song forward with an extra layer of character. The vocals and lyrics are probably what make this song stand out the most, though. Richard Ringer really brings a distinctly theatrical sense to the group, and the unpredictable, original lyrical themes add to that tone. These guys are really doing something new here.
