‘Desire and the Need to Live’ by Crushed Veneer is some simple, personally-oriented punk rock. The band was “formed in early 2017 by Kieran McGrady, who was then joined by Al Briggs, Bobby Kodadoust and Aaron Simmons.” They “buried themselves away in practice rooms writing the songs that would later appear on the first EP,” also titled Desire and the Need to Live. These guys are pretty emo, but they have a gruffer take on the genre than most in this day and age. In many ways, they’re reminiscent Hot Water Music or A Day to Remember. They have a masculine pop sensibility that’s complimented by their unpretentious song-writing and heart-wrought lyricality. These guys are true up-and-comers.
