Bataar’s ‘Devour’ is some intensely melodic Swedish metalcore. These guys are clearly versed in the Gothenburg melo-death sound, but they take a far more commercial, maybe even global, approach to this kind of music than many of their fellow Scandinavians have. Their extensive use of synths and clean vocals is reminiscent of post-hardcore-influenced metalcore groups like Bring Me The Horizon or Motionless in White. Behind that, they have seemingly nu metal-rooted riffs and basic hardcore breakdowns. Aesthetically, and to a large extent sonically, these guys seem deeply in debt to the Japanese metal scene. There are clear ties here to groups like Dir En Grey and Maximum The Hormone – especially in regard to the commercialization of extreme metal’s less broadly palatable tendencies. These guys are good at what they do. Check out ‘Devour’ below!
