Far From Refuge’s ‘There Was a Light’ is relatively straightforward, breakdown-heavy English metalcore. “Formed in 2017,” the band says, “our music combines elements from progressive metal, metalcore and melodic death [metal].” This group does a really good of creating dynamic electronic soundscapes for their brutality to sit over. They definitely lean more toward the metal side of metalcore. This a pretty tight, clean production that strays from the messiness and overt emotionality of hardcore punk. These guys definitely take a lot from metalcore classics like Killswitch Engage and the recently reunited As I Lay Dying, but it seems like they’ve also listened to groups like Shadows Fall, Darkest Hour and Converge. Far From Refuge has it together. Check out ‘There Was a Light’ below!
