Squid Cult’s ‘Rattlesnake’ Is Mathy Alt Rock With a Folky, Classic Rock Edge

7 18 18 Squid CultSquid Cult’s ‘Rattlesnake’ is mathy alternative rock with a folky, classic rock-influenced approach. The music video’s “romp through human sacrifice, slime, and shaving cream was completely improvised in 20 degree weather,” the band says. “We had a big, elaborate vision for this video,” they say, but “then everything fell through. We had exactly one day to put something together, so we rented a 1974 Volkswagen The Thing, asked our friends to star, and ran out to Joshua Tree.” The combination of quirky, retro aesthetics with intense, progressive compositional choices brings the group Primus to mind. Musically, there’s a lot going on here, but these guys are able to pull it together into a surprisingly cohesive track. Something about it seems to really embody desert rock. This group knows what it’s doing. Check out ‘Rattlesnake’ below!
