Beauty School’s ‘Summer with You’ Is Sweet, Straightforward Garage-Imbued Indie

7 18 18 Beauty SchoolBeauty School’s ‘Summer with You’ is sweet, straightforward indie with a distinct garage rock sensibility. These Chicago natives describe themselves as, “sixties meets Pixies with a hint of chillwave.” The group “formed in Chicago in late 2015 when two groups of musicians joined forces to pursue their shared appreciation of sweet hooks, simple arrangements, and pithy love songs. Since then,” they say, “the group has honed an immediate and upbeat sound, driven by melodic female vocals and by an appreciation for the varied history of women in rock.” This track feels kind of laid back, but at the same time there’s a deep sense of angst portrayed through the clear, repetitive vocal approach. Musically, the band doesn’t seem to be into excessive flourishes of the hand or great derivation from a main motif, but the production on here is solid and everyone in the band clearly knows what they’re doing. These guys have a lot to offer. Check out ‘Summer with You’ below!
