Rhema’s ‘Staring Through the Rain’ is darkly calming indie pop with a retro tone. Over a quiet, minimalist and trappy synthesized drum beat, these guys allow their wavy, understated synths full reign. They warble and fluctuate to loosely define the song’s various landmarks. Although in some regards this sounds decidedly formless, the vocals give the song some structure. Their dramatic, melancholy nature gives the tune a gothic vibe. These guys do a really good job of fusing a dark eighties new wave mentality with a modern approach to composition and production. This group has an awesome handle on its sound.
