Ithomiid’s ‘Iodine’ is sad, angsty punk rock with a melodic, aggressive approach. “Introspective lyrics,” define their work, they say, “with a progressive hybrid of fast paced punk and heavy hitting metal music.” That certainly seems like a solid way to describe it. The body of their song appears to be largely in debt to post-hardcore and pop punk, but a lot of the flourishes in their work seem to take cues from metalcore and even some more far flung, retro corners of the hard rock world. The intense, punky guitar riffage and wild solos that define ‘Iodine’ fuse so well because there’s a sense of consistency in the production. Even the wah-ing guitar licks that exist over chunky breakdowns are imbued with a thin, fuzzy tone that binds the whole piece. These guys really know what they’re doing. Check out ‘Iodine’ below!
