‘Red Leather Jacket’ by The Gettysburg Address Is Glum Jersey Punk

11 24 18 The Gettysburg Address.jpeg‘Red Leather Jacket’ by The Gettysburg Address is some glum, plinky emo out of the Garden State with strong math rock influences. These guys have “released an EP, an 8-song album, and one single from an upcoming EP.” They say their “influences have shifted from 2000s emo and post-hardcore bands towards emo revival and mid-nineties midwest bands.” Although the lyrical content on here is super predictable, it does paint a strong, distinctly Jersey picture. Although they shout out Central Jersey heavyweights Thursday on here, as far as the genre goes these guys seem pretty alienated from the now-defunct Jersey scene defined by groups like Armor For Sleep, Senses Fail and Saves the Day. Instead, they seem much more oriented toward poppy, mathy Midwestern groups like Tiny Moving Parts, Castevet or Remo Drive. This is far from the most original or enticing music out there, but what we have here, as with many a young emo band, is a group of musicians who actually know how to play their instruments and compose in an engaging way. If these guys can find a niche or a new energy, they could really be going places. Check out ‘Red Leather Jacket’ below!
