‘Kiss Me on the Mouth’ by Michelle Blades Is Clean International Indie Rock

12 5 18 Michelle Blades.png‘Kiss Me on the Mouth’ by Michelle Blades is slick bluesy indie rock with a distinctly retro sense of homeliness. On here, the “Mexican-Panamanian artist presents a bittersweet track… [featuring] a character trying to persuade themselves of an innocence long lost while analyzing the vices of those around them,” her people say. This bandleader says her varied discography functions, “as an extension of her nomadic life spent between Panama, where she was born; Mexico, the land of her mother’s family; Florida where she escaped from Manuel Noriega’s dictatorship; Arizona, where the young woman met underground and alternative culture and France for a music career spanning over ten years.” This constant re-adjustment to new cultures, norms and musical zeitgeists seems to be what makes this artist’s work so poignant. She brings together the honest, well-defined soul of a Latin pop star with the bluesy experimentalism broadly emblematic of the American rock scene in the 2000s and the clean, artsy flair of continental European post-punk. All of that is bridged in a concise, focused format with strong production and top-notch musicianship. This is a quality track from a talented artist. Check out ‘Kiss Me on the Mouth’ below!
