RETROSPECT by Hunter T. [Poem]

My mind wanders and then I catch it
Dark thoughts perpetuate
I set them on fire, and for a moment
They burn with fury.
My mind ablaze in retrospect
Until I scatter the ashes
Leaving my heart cold again
I’m tranquil but numb
Like frozen from waiting too long

A light far ahead glimmers
Giving me hope once again
This cycle won’t persist much longer
I’ll either change for the better
Or spin out of control

I hold on to thoughts of love
Grabbing at the distant strands of light.
