‘Vulgar’ by Horns in some groovy, classic rock-inflected punk out of the Dominican Republic. These guys do a really good job of bringing a forward, crusty approach to punk without sacrificing clarity or compositional complexity. For a listener who grew up with classic rock, a lot of this track will sound eerily familiar. It seems like in certain regards these guys are reworking and remixing established sounds and riffs rather than bringing an entirely original compositional take to the table. The area where the group really sets itself apart would be their aesthetic. The crunchy, groovy blues-oriented approach to the guitar riffs in conjunction with the booming rhythm section give the track a lot of depth. On top of that, the lead vocalist’s squawks give the track a deep sense of urgency and a fully-formed personality. This track is definitely worth checking out. Listen to ‘Vulgar’ below!
