Never Lied by Ryan Cassata: The Songs Meaning, A Message, Lyrics & Studio Music Video

Hi Everyone! This is Ryan Cassata, one of the songwriters, and the performer of Never Lied. This song comes off of my new record, The Witches Made Me Do It, which is available on all streaming platforms. This song was inspired by the process of falling in love during the California wildfires. I had no idea that this song would be even more relatable on a global level today than when we wrote it. “I guess we’re staying in tonight” is what we had to do during the wildfires as the smoke was making it extremely hard to breathe outside. Now, everyone is staying in and the lyrics have a different meaning on top of the original meaning.

Anyway, I filmed my vocal tape while I was recording in the studio! Everything on this record was recorded live and mostly to tape. This shows how minimal editing was during this recording process and how authentically recorded this record is. I’m super glad we recorded analog over digital. I hope you enjoy both the video and the song.

Continue to stay home and help save lives. Thank you to all the workers on the front line!

Sincerely, Ryan Cassata

LYRICS (Genius):
Our feet tangled in these sheets
As we make love the ground is bleeding
Beneath us
In a city of lost angels and demons
Our fault lines can’t defeat us
This city needs us

The 101 is on fire
Burning mansions filled with liars
I guess we’re staying in tonight
You can’t say exactly who I am
But I’m reminding you of all of them
All the ones before me
So say that you adore me
Amen

Your skin’s a treat on my lips
We speak like we never lied
Under the blood moon eclipse
As the sirens pass by
My body gently spins
As our world is on fire

I guess we’re staying in tonight
I guess we’re staying in tonight
We have to know what’s not our fight

I’m a little bit insecure
I’m a little bit immature
But I’m trying to be the best for you
I’m not trying to walk away
With old ideas from yesterday
We pray for rain

Your skin’s a treat on my lips
We speak like we never lied
Under the blood moon eclipse
As the sirens pass by
My body gently spins
While our world is on fire

I guess we’re staying in tonight
I guess we’re staying in tonight
We have to know what’s not our fight

I’m not afraid of the sorrows that you spill
Don’t you know I’ve been there too and
I’ve lost count and …
All the dim lit paths that we walked
Made up this version of who we are
I’m glad I found you

Your skin’s a treat on my lips
We speak like we never lied
Under the blood moon eclipse
While the sirens pass by
My body gently spins
As our world is on fire

I guess we’re staying in tonight
I guess we’re staying in tonight
We have to know what’s not our fight
I guess we’re staying in
Tonight…
