The song starts off with sampled vocals combined with steady percussion. We’re then blessed with YawnyBlew’s beautifully stacked vocals and catchy lyrics. The vocal melodies are easy to sing along with, which makes this song a must add to your playlists. Describe your release in 3 sentences.
“Dusk” is an R&B/Pop record inspired by 90’s Hip-Hop and 60s Boy Bands. The song was initially intended to be my album intro which is why the structure is not your typical song structure. When making it we really wanted something that felt happy and upbeat but still evoked feelings of nostalgia and melancholy.
What was your favorite part about making this song?
My favorite part of making the record was trying to funnel my love of Biggie and The Beatles into one song. Me and my producer Sean Hamilton were just looking to have fun and make something cool and different. The whole process was super easy.
What was the hardest part making this song?
Honestly, making “Dusk” was all pretty easy. The hardest part was probably letting it go and letting Sean finish it. I wanted to add more harmonies and more parts but he asked me to trust him and leave it as it was. I’m really happy I listened to him.
Was this release cathartic for you?
It was very cathartic. It was a record that I was kind of protective of and wasn’t sure if I was ready to release. Through the process of prepping the video and content I started to realize how much I wanted people to hear it and how proud I was of the song.
What keeps you motivated?
My motivation comes from the desire to create and connect with people like me. I love making music and I’m falling in love with releasing it. I’m constantly inspired by what’s next.
What can we expect next from you?
We’re working on a “Dusk” remix EP for late April. That will be followed by a few more singles and then my album “Midnight in Brooklyn” in the summer.
What other artists are you listening to right now?
Tkay Maidza, Pyra, Channel Tres, Dawn Richard and Chika are pretty heavy on rotation right now.
