A true indie dance bop, this song enamored me and gave me all the feels.

A Canadian born Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter with a dreamy indie pop sound, Jenny Kern’s magnetic vocal style and emotive lyricism gained global attention in 2019 after the release of her debut single “Slow Burn”. She was immediately invited on her first international tour in Europe and featured on MTV, ABC and the CW. In fall 2019 Jenny recorded two singles “Satellite” and “Now We Know” with producer Andy Seltzer (Maggie Rogers, Chelsea Cutler, Valley).
Her first single release of 2021, “Coming Back For Me”, was another collaboration with producer Andy Seltzer. Released in January of 2021, “Coming Back For Me” caught the attention of legendary radio voice and programmer Bruce Warren and has spun on XPN and NPR’s World Cafe. 2021 also saw Jenny’s music placed on several Spotify editorial playlists including Fresh Finds , Indie All Stars, and New Music Friday which collectively have well over 1 million followers.

Last year Jenny released her EP “I Never Thought That You Were Listening” which had two songs charting on top 40 radio. Since then she has amassed over 1 million streams on Spotify. After her biggest headline show to date at Mercury Lounge in May, Jenny released “Feel It Again” the first single off her upcoming EP due out in the fall.
The song starts with an ethereal instrumental vibe accompanied by Jenny’s stunning vocals. Her vocal Melodie’s guide us sweetly into the pre chorus, with a powerful upbeat drop for the chorus. Not only are the lyrics here catchy, but the vocal melodies are quite enamoring. If you’re a lover of LANY, you’ll absolutely LOVE this track as much as I do. It’s an electro pop must have for any indie pop playlist. From start to finish, this song carries us through the motions and leaves us with the best aftertaste, making us want to come back for more!

I had the privilege to interview Jenny about the release, check it out below!
How and when did you get started making music?
I’ve been a music fan and playing instruments since I was little but I actually only started writing music in 2018. I was working as a producer in the film and TV business and I was working too much. I needed to engage in hobbies again so I picked up the guitar and started to try singing. A friend suggested I write a song. I initially thought it was a crazy idea but I fell in love with it very quickly!
What other artists influence your musical style?
I have a lot of musical influences. I’d say vocally I’m very influenced by 90’s female singer songwriters like Sarah McLachlan, Dido or Annie Lennox. I grew up listening to a lot of different things. Everything from Joni Mitchell to The Spinners to 80’s pop. Now I’ve grown to appreciate many styles and try to inject a lot of different sonic influences into my music. So currently I’d say The 1975, Phil Collins or MUNA.

What was one of your favorite parts creating “Feel It Again”?
My favourite part of creating this tune was connecting with the music. I want this song to make people feel more alive and in tune with their body. The goal for this track and this upcoming EP is to really, truly play with rhythm. This song especially dives into that with the synth bass line, drum groove and rhythmic guitar. My focus was to step outside of the box. Not do the norm of what everyone expects of me. I wanted to show another side of my artistry. I want this song to be an anthem for those who are constantly overwhelmed with emotion.
What does this song mean to you personally?
This song is essentially about the ups and downs of dealing with emotions especially when it comes to loving and being in love with another person. It’s an emotional release. Simply put making this song made me feel more alive. It helps me connect with my emotions and I hope it does for others!

What can we expect next from you?
This next EP is very much leaning into and embracing pop music. It’s exploring a new sonic world for me. One that focuses heavily on rhythm and creating energy. I’m so excited to share the songs currently in the works.
What other artists are you listening to right now?
I’m always exploring new music but I’d say these are my go to artists at the moment: The 1975, MUNA, Holly Humberstone, LANY, Dizzy, Oh Wonder, Chelsea Cutler and Maggie Rogers.
