“Silencio” by La Versión Extendida de las Cosas Absolutely Rips
Costa Rican alt/emo rock band La Versión Extendida de las Cosas (aka La Versión) is a powerhouse of rhythm, power, finesse, and tone. La Versión has a truly unruly yet channeled punk flow and harmonies unlike any other band I’ve heard and could commit to recent memory.

“Silencio” is perfect for long-time fans of theirs that might’ve caught one of their sets or releases since 2014, and new fans just now discovering the band with an impressive twelve years of making music as a group. Some of those years, La Versión has toured with an array of talent, including Burnt Tapes, Amends, FJØRT, Eat Defeat, Porter, Tigers Jaw, Bad Cop/Bad Cop, Citizen, and Jaguero.
You get elements of what built the earlier years of Foo Fighters mixed with an energized Minus the Bear. It’s the golden age of emo guitar tones meeting the revitalized modern scene, only possible through their distinct style. It takes no time at all to jump from opening voicemail audio to a driving and precise wall of euphoric sound.
Given that their band name translates to “The Extended Version of Things,” they exact what they evoke and do it extremely well upon delivery with “Silencio.” While my Spanish speaking is limited and the lyrics aren’t accessible (for now), the vocalist carries such conviction and clarity in the mix while standing out as an instrument of its own. Incredible vocals backed by a band that fits like a glove for its beautiful shape.
