‘Don’t Lie to Me’ by Jackie Venson Is a Crafty Rock-Fusion Tune

Jackie Venson’s new song ‘Don’t Lie to Me’ is some soulful, reggae-tinged indie rock. Venson, an Austin native who writes all of her own music in addition to singing and playing the guitar, has been featured on NPR and once filled in as a guest guitarist on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. ‘Don’t Lie to Me’ is well-written and chock full of character all the way through, but Venson’s guitar work is the real highlight. The way she matches up her riffs and solos with her vocals is truly masterful. Production-wise, the track is properly chopped, mixed and mastered. It balances and prioritizes its different elements well. Jackie Venson is already getting a lot of recognition, but go check out her work. She’s an extremely talented woman.
