‘Us’ by Stray Theories is some drawn-out, orchestral Kiwi post-rock. These self-proclaimed “cinematic ambient artists,” describe this closer as an, “uplifting end-of-album song.” The expansive nature of this track makes it difficult to make specific points about, but this is a truly enveloping piece. It almost seems more fitting to call it a composition or a soundscape. The enchanting mix of keys, electronics and reverb-drenched guitars is formless, yet somehow also paints a very vivid picture. Some will see fog rolling off of steep, tree-dotted mountains into a cold salt water bay. For others, it may trigger a formative early childhood memory or a deeply emotional transformative moment. These guys are masters of post-rock. Check out ‘Us’ below!
