Hoolie Gu’s ‘Make It or Take It’ Is Some Old School, Poppy Brooklyn Rap

7 11 18 Hoolie GuHoolie Gu’s ‘Make It or Take It’ is a strong release from this Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn-based rapper. “Beginning his musical career in 2010… Hoolie Gu began rapping to overcome financial hardships,” he says. “Shortly after, he went on a hiatus from the music industry to focus on fatherhood.” Starting “in 2013, the Brooklyn native began performing in showcases throughout New York City,” and he’s been on his grind since then. Hoolie Gu likes to compare himself to TuPac, which does make sense in a lot of non-geographic ways. The poppy, piano-based sampling would do well on the radio. He does a good job of transitioning between rapping and his saccharine, poppy hooks. Hoolie Gu has kind of an old school approach that doesn’t get nearly enough attention in this musical climate. This guy has a broad appeal that could definitely get him some quality air time. This man is going places. Check out ‘Make It or Take It’ below!
