‘Mosh Pit’ by War with the Newts Is Straight-Yet-Wonky German Hardcore

10 30 18 War with the Newts‘Mosh Pit’ by War with the Newts is a grimy, off-kilter take on hardcore out of Berlin. The band says they “have been hurling and whirling across stages since 2016, leaving behind a trail of happiness and destruction.” According the group, which has roots all over Europe including Spain, Ukraine and France, they turn “their shared anger and frustration about the world into the most intense and ass-kicking hardcore punk rock to come out of Berlin’s music scene in years.” These guys bring the traditional intensity of the American hardcore scene to the a cheeky, decidedly European attitude. The group also has a kind of wonky take on composition the imbues a traditionally formulaic genre with a sense of surprise and variety. It’s reminiscent of the work of Canadian band Death From Above. This is a bruising track from a fun band. Check out ‘Mosh Pit’ below!
