Gleneagle’s ‘2009’ is slick, pounding indie rock with a poppy, punky flair. This personally-oriented, deeply nostalgic tune holds close a lot of the lyrical hallmarks of a genre like emo. In spite of that, the music itself feels like it lies more in the realm of pop punk. It’s sweet, smooth and definitively pensive, but it would be hard to describe the song as having an overall sad vibe. It has a level, coursing sense of energy that carries the listener through the vivid understanding the lyrics create. The actual composition itself is strong, but it’s simple and restrained. Like a well-written pop tune, it lets the vocals take the lead. This would a good fit for fans of groups like The Story So Far or Moose Blood. This is an awesome track from a promising band.
