‘Casual Encounters’ by The This Is Well-Produced British Columbian Post-Punk

12 12 18 The This.jpeg‘Casual Encounters’ by The This is spunky, twinkly post-punk with an ethereal, poppy flair. The group began, “as a solo recording project by guitarist/vocalist Evan Matthiesen between producing local bands in the Victoria, British Columbia area,” but has recently been “realized as a real life band featuring Jimbo Rai and Seth Eggler on bass guitar and drums respectively.” The band says, “this self-produced track… explores themes of infidelity, paranoia and mistrust in a relationship of the digital age.” These guys definitely have a strong take on a well-treaded genre. They aren’t exactly floating into uncharted waters here, but the way they fuse a hot, modern production approach with a more restrained, jazzy take on indie rock or post-punk sound is well done. There’s a lot of character and some very strong musicianship on here. Check out ‘Casual Encounters’ below!
