Small Town Glow’s ‘Speed Trap’ is some thick, energetic pop punk with some Upstate New York attitude. This “is the debut track for Small Town Glows upcoming EP You’re Welcome to be released February 14,” the band says. “Small Town Glow is the rock band alias created by songwriter and sole permanent member, Josh Robin.” In a lot of ways, this is a pretty standard alternative rock, but Robin’s rich, cheeky delivery and the band’s tight-yet-messy sound give the piece a unique edge. The guitars on here are thick. The riffs, especially when interwoven with the plucky bass lines, have a rope-like quality. Like a sailor’s rope, the song writhes around and pulls on itself, but it always maintains a clean, recognizable overall form. This is a nice piece from a talented artist.
