Bryce Bowyn Reviews Cory Stewart’s Two Versions of New Single “Perfect World”

Cory Stewart had me hooked on his brand of pop music since I first heard “Do You” in the early days of the Great Quarantine of 2020. My stanning of Mr. Stewart only increased with the release of his debut album Tov. With a dynamic voice and the melodic sensibilities of Max Martin, you always feel the fervor in Cory’s performance.

I got know to Cory through QUEERANTINE and his supportive reputation in the queer music scene. It’s a great joy to count him among my friends and I was SUPER pumped when he sent me not one, but two versions of his new single “Perfect World.” Spoiling us with new music and innovation so soon after an album? I was gagged.

Starting with the Red Pill Version of “Perfect World,” Cory is giving us hyperpop. He’s giving us club commander, robo-popstar. He coos “Unleash your ugly with me because you’re so hot when you’re messy” and it WILL turn you on.

By the time I finished the Red Pill Version, I already decided “Perfect World” was my favorite Cory Stewart song. The Blue Pill Version features producer Edward Russell and only further cements the song’s excellence. This mix is pure Confessions of the Dance Floor-era Madonna. Given the lyrical shoutouts and Russell’s own love of the Queen of Pop (see his podcast Into the Groove), that’s not a coincidence.

As soon as the world is able to party again, “Perfect World (Red Pill Version)” will be in the clubs with laser lights and gogo dancers shaking their ass. The Blue Pill Version will be for when Cory is flanked by an army of dancers singing to an arena of rapid fans. Either way, “Perfect World” is the perfect soundtrack for our return to the dance floor.
